First Power Plug-in Lunch for Geraldine Cox and Sunrise
May 7, 2008
It was a sell out lunch held at the Exchange Hotel in Balmain to meet Geraldine Cox, "BIG MUM" from Sunrise Children’s Village in Cambodia.
There were 15 business people attending - all with a common interest in Geraldine and her work with Orphan children in Cambodia at Sunrise Children’s Villges and philanthropy in general. The lunch was also attended by Sunrise’s Country Director Gerald Trevor.
We heard from Geraldine first-hand about her work and what it entails to keep an organisation such as Sunrise going on a day to day basis and we discussed how we can all help to Geraldine and her team build a sustainable future through our businesses.
At this event we were proud to announce and present Geraldine and Sunrise with over $15,000 in donations including:
$10,500 from St George Private Hospital
- 6 year old Gemma’s donation of $600 - from her birthday party. That’s her mum Lynda presenting Geraldine with Gemma’s donation. Read more about Gemma’s Birthday
Key Outcomes:
- Sue Liu from Zulu Communications was invited to spend Christmas and New Year in Cambodia with Geradline and the kids and was contracted to work with the Australia Cambodia Foundation Inc to help them with strategic business and marketing!
- Zulu was also able to secure Geraldine with several speaking engagements to high profile groups - by working with the businesses at the Power Plug-in Lunch - which WILL result in more business and support for Sunrise in the future.
A number of business alliances have been formed and consolidated as a result of coming together over common interests.

Donation of Caps to the Homeless of Sydney
May 6, 2008
When one of Zulu’s suppliers got in touch to say that she had an excess of 500 brand new baseball caps that needed to find a useful home - I knew immediately who would get the most use out of them!
In March 2008 - Zulu’s Community donated 500 caps to the homeless people of Sydney through Rozelle charity Just Enough Faith.
So if you happen to see a collection of people keeping their heads warm under navy blue baseball caps - think of Zulu’s Community.
Thanks to Lynda Musty for her kind and generous contribution.
Donation of Toys and Clothing to Refugees in Wagga
May 6, 2008
In April 2008 - Zulu’s Community decided to support Sarah Gillis at Aspire Australia who has been assisting new settlers to Australia fleeing from war ravaged and politically unstable countries across Africa and Asia.
The communities that Sarah is supporting have settled in Wagga Wagga in Country NSW after settling in Australia after suffering various forms of political, physical, religious or cultural persecution.
Zulu’s Community collected 7 boxes of pre-loved toys, books, clothes and shoes and some new caps and gave them to Sarah who took them down to Wagga in early April to distribute them to people in this new refugee community.
Thanks to: The Loo Family & The Lollback Family for generously clearing out their children’s toy cupboards and libraries, and also Lynda Musty for the donation of caps.
If you are interested in donating toys, books, clothes and shoes for the children in these families and blankets, warm bedding and clothes for the families to survive the autumn and winter months, contact Sarah at sarahgillis@aspireaustralia.com.au
