Sri Lanka - Christmas 05 Project
Kids Christmas break AWAY!!
THE CALL TO ACTION: 26 October 2005
On 26 December, 20 of the 50 girls who live at St Joseph ’s Girls Home will be facing the first anniversary of the Tsunami that took away their families. The girls have nowhere else to go during school holidays, and Trincomalee is a town full of strife - so I have decided to work toward helping give the girls a break away at Christmas time. If we raise enough money - we’ll help the boys take a trip as well!
YOU CAN HELP!! I want to raise the money to send these girls on an excursion to some of the more peaceful and serene places in Sri Lanka - and also send some money for Fr Jeevanadas for some special Christmas celebrations at AMALA UTHAYAN. THE MORE WE RAISE - THE MORE WE CAN DO! Let’s give the kids a break away at Christmas time!! ( read more)
Report
$2500 was sent over to Sri Lanka just before Christmas and was received by Fr Jeevanadas, Sr Thersilda and Sr Emerita.
Over the Christmas period and well into January and February, Trincomalee was experiencing great strife again - with many basic services disrupted. I received the following letters from my friends in Trincomalee…………….
- $1000 for the holiday and christmas party and treats for 50 girls
The girls went on their holiday - which included swimming at the Dunsheen water fall.
The photos of the holiday were lost in the post over December/January - but I received this photo and Sr Thereslida writes:
" Dear Sue, Thank you for your money R 73,000. God Bless you. Our children had a nice Christmas Party also each one received a bag with lot of things."

Fr Jeevanadas writes:
My dearest Sue, Greetings in the Lord, Sorry for my long period of silence…. I am fine and everybody is safe and sound here. I have received your money. Thank really supporting our boys. I could not celebrate the xmas day. Due to the situations all the boys went to their villages for their security. Now all have come back to start their work.
The money you sent for xmas celebrations used for some other purpose. We bought mosquito net for their bed. We all the three priest decided to forgo the Amala Uthayan xmas celebrations. Hope you will not misunderstand about your money which was spent for some other purpose.
Now there are 20 boys at our home and there are 32 boys at the College Hostel. You may ask your firends to help for the daily feed.
Love and regards…..
